Structuring your project

What this module is about

The aim of this module is to help you establish the structure of your writing project. There is no one solution, but we can use some simple ideas to help find a structure that will work.

We'll look at what we mean by ‘document structure’, and how to work out what it should be. (A website can be thought of as a document.)

More formally, by the end of this module, learners should:

  • be familiar with the main components of several types of texts
  • be able to work out a sensible large-scale structure for their work
  • appreciate the importance of headings in establishing and then flagging structure
  • be able to examine a structure and alter it for the better.

How it works

You'll be presented with a series of pages. Please read through them and attempt any activities. When you complete an activity, click ‘Check’, and some feedback (and sometimes more content) will be revealed.

Use the ‘previous’ and ‘next’ links to move forward and back through the module. You can visit any page as often as you like.

Each activity is accompanied by possible answers, though sometimes there is no one right answer.
