Six common writing mistakes

What this module is about

The aim of this module is to help you avoid 6 common pitfalls when writing your content.

More formally, by the end of this module, learners should be able to recognise and, where necessary, avoid:

  • unnecessarily complex words and jargon

  • long sentences

  • passive voice

  • vague verbs and inane nouns

  • nonparallel structure

  • long strings of modifiers.

How it works

You’ll be presented with a series of pages. Please read through them and attempt any activities. When you complete an activity, click ‘Check’, and some feedback (and sometimes more content) will be revealed.

Use the ‘previous’ and ‘next’ links to move forward and back through the module. You can visit any page as often as you like.

Each activity is accompanied by possible answers, though sometimes there no is one right answer.
