Established under the Australian Heritage Commission Act 1975, the Register of the National Estate was closed in 2007, and the Act was repealed in 2003. In 2003, 2 new lists were established under the EPBC Act for listing places of natural, historic and Indigenous value: the National Heritage List and the Commonwealth Heritage List.
